head spa treatment
by Marina Mancione

Recently, I treated myself to a head spa in Los Angeles. Now, you might be wondering, “A spa? For my head?” Exactly. When you think of a spa day, you might imagine facials and massages, but how often do you think about caring for your scalp? After my treatment, it completely shifted the way I view my scalp health.

What Exactly is a Head Spa?

A head spa is a facial for your scalp. It is a deep, detoxifying, and relaxing scalp treatment that focuses on cleansing, hydrating, and nourishing the scalp. Techniques such as massage, masks, and exfoliation are used to achieve these results. Although healthy and shiny hair are perks, it’s more about creating balance for your skin, circulation, and even the immense stress we all carry.

Why I Chose to Get a Head Spa

I have 2B wavy hair, a lot of dandruff, and severe irritation on my scalp. I knew what I was doing was not particularly making my hair and scalp happy, so I decided to look for a treatment that could truly support me.

The Experience

You begin with a scalp analysis to view the health of your scalp before AND after the treatment. Then, you are reclined on a comfortable bed while the practitioner works gently, but efficiently, on your scalp and hair. The combination of massage, warm waterfall rinses, and aromatic products creates a trance-like state: a total reset for your nervous system. After the treatment, you receive personalized therapeutic tools to support your scalp and a blow-out that leaves your hair shinier than ever.

Inside My Treatment

My session was detailed and personalized just for me. Here’s what it included:

  • Scalp Test: to view my scalp health before and after treatment.
  • Detox Cleanse & Scalp Mask: to clear buildup and soothe dryness.
  • Oxygen Infusion & High Frequency Therapy: to boost hydration while calming irritation.
  • Scalp Massage: pure relaxation.

The Benefits

Beyond my hair feeling smooth and silky post-treatment, the benefits go beneath the surface:

  • Scalp Health: Through the techniques used in treatment (exfoliation, masks, cleansing), it helps prevent dandruff, dryness, and excess oil.
  • Hair Growth Support: Increased circulation to the scalp supports stronger, healthier hair.
  • Stress Relief: The massage elements melt away tension and stress.

Who Should Try It?

Regardless of your hair type, a head spa can be beneficial for almost anyone. Whether you crave deep relaxation, want to encourage hair growth, or struggle with scalp issues, this treatment will leave you yearning for more. This treatment is especially encouraged for those who have head, neck, and jaw tension, as the massage techniques specifically target these zones.

Final Thoughts

By tending to the scalp and getting to the root of our health, we gain a greater sense of clarity and calm. Before the treatment, I struggled with dandruff, redness, and irritation. Once it was complete, I felt lighter, my hair was bouncier, and my scalp felt nourished. A head spa is more than just another beauty treatment – it is pure self-care. So yes, a spa for your head might sound strange, but I can confidently say it is exactly what my scalp and I needed.
