Achieving fuller lips can often times be a complex quest. The question is, do you need a lip flip or lip filler? Both treatments enhance the appearance of the lips, but they work in very different ways—and they’re definitely not interchangeable.

What Is a Lip Flip?

A lip flip uses Botox or another neuromodulator to subtly relax the muscles around the upper lip, especially the orbicularis oris. This causes the lip to roll slightly upward, revealing more of the pink tissue and giving the illusion of a fuller upper lip—without adding volume.

Best for:

  • People with a “disappearing upper lip” when they smile
  • Those who want subtle definition—not a plumper pout
  • First-timers who are Botox-curious and want a no-filler approach

Results: Last around 6–8 weeks
Cost: Typically less than filler (only 4-8 units). May be a one time fee of $150 or more or may just be charged per unit. Depends on structure of the Med Spa.
Downtime: Minimal, but you may notice a change in movement (e.g. sipping through a straw feels different) within 5 days to 14 days.

What About Lip Filler?

Lip filler (typically hyaluronic acid-based, like Juvederm or Restylane) adds actual volume and structure to both the top and bottom lips. An experienced injector—especially one trained in ethnic facial anatomy—knows how to enhance lips while maintaining natural proportion and respecting the Cupid’s bow, philtrum columns, and vermillion border.

Best for:

  • People who want more volume and shape
  • Those with naturally thin lips or volume loss due to aging
  • Those ready for a more noticeable (but still customizable) enhancement

Results: Last about 6–12 months
Cost: More than a lip flip, but longer-lasting. Around $500-900 per syringe
Downtime: Mild swelling and bruising for 2-5 days. 2 weeks for full results
